Though the 'shower versus bath' debate has been going strong for generations, Kush Queen is here to explain why baths are (and will always be) unequivocally superior.

Baths are better for many reasons. Not only do they provide deep muscle relaxation and pain relief, but they're also a sweet escape from reality. Baths cultivate a peaceful space we can retreat to where books get devoured, music plays uninterrupted, and favorite foods are enjoyed in peace... praise ganja!!

Kush Queen model ponders the benefits of CBD infused bath bombs

Like, seriously, what's not to love about a CBD bath bomb?!

CBD bath bombs are a great addition to your self-care routine. These wonderfully infused bath bombs can help you truly make the most out of your bath time ritual. The non-intoxicating CBD intensifies muscle relaxation and can simultaneously help your mind and body to unwind more easily.

Read on to learn some awesome benefits of CBD-infused bath bombs and to get some 'inspo' on which ones you should try.

There Are Tons of Varieties

Much like all other bath bombs, CBD-infused ones come in a lot of different varieties. Kush Queen offers some that are tailor-made to promote rest and better sleep. We also have options to revamp and revitalize your skin and others that'll make you feel more energetic and engaged.

The effect isn't the only factor to consider when purchasing a bath bomb. Aromatherapy is a common reason people use these quality products. Choose a scent that makes you feel better than before, such as citrus, florals, coffee, or peppermint. As we always say, the nose knows.

If you're unsure about which color or scent is best for you, get a mini bath bomb variety pack and test out the multiple types of bath bombs we offer.

They're Easy to Use

CBD is generally pretty easy to use, but bath bombs take convenience to a whole new level. There is no need to decipher complex instructions as you would with a tincture or an edible; in this case, you simply put a bath bomb in the tub and let it work its magic.

Because our bath bombs already come with the appropriate amount of CBD infused in them, you don't need to worry about perfecting your dosage either. Instead, sit back and watch as the colors move throughout the water and enjoy the therapeutic scent as it hits your nose.

They Magnify Healing Effects

Baths are incredibly healing no matter the circumstances. Stretching and moving in water provides strength through resistance. Plus, baths can help you breathe better and potentially improve both your brain and nervous system.

Certain studies suggest that baths can help your heart and make you more immune to diseases, but these are not 100% proven as fact.

It's undeniable, however, that baths feel good and benefit your muscles, joints, and bones. Additionally, since hot water opens pathways that provide more oxygen to your brain, aromatherapy from bath bomb scents is likely very effective.

They Provide a Spa-Like Experience

Spas are intended to relax both your mind and body, and that's what CBD bath bombs do. Head-to-toe relaxation leads to less anxiety, and less anxiety leads to overall better mental and physical health.

Also, since these products are a true luxury, Kush Queen CBD bath bombs will make you feel like all types of high-class royalty from home. (It's giving a glowing Riri amidst the hustle and bustle of NYC).

Best of all, each bath bomb that we offer is price-comparable with other high-quality bath and body companies. Since these other companies don't let you reap the benefits of CBD infusion, this is a huge benefit.

Kush Queen Love CBD Bath Bomb rests on a cloud

They May Heal Muscle Pain

Did you know that clinical studies have suggested that CBD indirectly improves the immune system's response to pain? CBD eliminates negative hormones and the proliferation of T-cells within the body. The CB1 and CB2 receptors in your natural body are strengthened and help to reduce muscle and joint pain.

CBD bath bombs will prove especially effective at this because they immerse your entire body in CBD. Unlike with a tincture or edible, you will be surrounded by its healing properties. This helps to promote your holistic health in all areas of the body.

They Can Benefit Your Skin

Regular bath bombs can benefit your skin in general because of the essential oils infused within them. These oils nourish, moisturize, and revitalize your skin to keep it smooth and comfortable. CBD bath bombs also incorporate basic essential oils in addition to cannabis, so they retain these benefits. However, like the other properties of baths, CBD magnifies these effects.

2020 study suggests that there is therapeutic potential for CBD to help those with skin disorders become healthier. It also is likely proactive in keeping healthy skin moist and preventing problems further down the line.

While the overall topical benefits are still being studied, you should 100% try it to see if it works for you. Many users cite that there's a lot of truth to this research, proclaiming how CBD makes their skin feel revitalized and nourished. Since bath bombs touch all of your skin, this is a great way to try it out.

At the start of my career in cannabis, long before I founded Kush Queen, I learned about the path to legalization in California and the shared history of the LGBTQIA+ community with cannabis.

From that moment on, I made it my mission to honor the Queer activists who came before us, the true OGs we can thank for providing us with safe access to this plant.

At Kush Queen, Pride is Honoring a Shared History

In the 1980s, Queer community leaders in San Fransisco ushered in the beginnings of legal cannabis as they worked to ease health and wellness struggles around the AIDS epidemic. Their real-life needs brought legitimacy to the medical cannabis conversation. Pictures of my Queer community heroes hang in my office; Cleve Jones, Dennis Peron, and Mary Jane Rathburn look over me as I run Kush Queen.

Also on my wall of heroes is Marsha P. Johnson, another great reminder of gay liberation and how we got here today. Her beautiful smile beams back at me as I write this

For those not familiar with her story, Johnson was a trans activist, self-identified drag queen, and a true survivor living in New York City. She was also one of the first protesters at the Stonewall riots in 1969. Many recall Johnson having thrown the first brick outside of the club, but the truth is no one really agrees on who or what started it (was it a brick? a bottle? or city cobblestone?).

Marsha P. Johnson Poster by MICAH BAZANT

Nonetheless, everyone does agree that Johnson and fellow trans activist Sylvia Rivera played a massive part in the spontaneous protest against a police raid in those early morning hours. This act of social uprising is often viewed as the first Pride celebration, sparking a series of events that would change the LGBTQIA+ community forever.

Pride is Revolutionary and Non-Conforming

Pride (as we know it today) is all about Queer celebration and love, but its roots are steeped in the journey of equal rights, visibility, and the acceptance of LGBTQIA+ people. It was never about rainbow-tinted capitalism, fleeting social media icons, and albeit, even super fun parades. Pride is about Queer liberation.

"Stonewall was, at its core, about people reclaiming their narratives from a society that told them they were sick or pitiful or didn’t even exist," writes Shane O’Neill, a journalist for the New York Times.

A 1970 photo of Marsha P. Johnson handing out flyers in support of Gay Students at NYU is seen here courtesy of the New York Public Library's "1969: The Year of Gay Liberation" exhibit. Diana Davies/NYPL/Handout via Reuters, FILE

After Stonewall, a new generation of gay activists emerged and organized, creating resources like the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR). These events and grassroots organizations focused on Queer individuals gaining access to equal rights as citizens while also helping the community find dignity, acceptance, and a sense of belonging within society. STAR, for example, provided housing and support to homeless LGBT youth and sex workers in New York City.

Pride is About Community and Peers Supporting Peers

For everyone at Kush Queen, Pride is about more than just a seasonal festivity, it’s about taking a stand, increasing visibility, and supporting our Queer communities all year round.

This year Kush Queen is donating 20% of proceeds from our Pride Collection to The Social Impact Center, founded by beloved Queer cannabis hero Felicia Carbajal, as well as to the Trans Latina Coalition, a local Los Angeles community-led, and founded organization.

Kush Queen 2022 Pride Collection

Our Pride Collection for 2022 features a Delta 8 THC water-based and latex-safe infused lube and 1:1 Delta 8 THC and CBD Trans Flag-inspired bath bomb in honor of our trans brothers and sisters.

Queer Liberation is Still Needed

Currently, countless pieces of appalling legislation are moving through state governments as an attempt to target the rights of trans people, attack trans youth, and reverse decades-worth of progress.

According to the advocacy group, Human Rights Campaign, over 300 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were proposed in 2022 alone.

Sam Ames, the director of advocacy and government affairs for The Trevor Project recently explained to CBS news "research has shown that as many as 85% of trans youth say that they are watching these debates over their identity play out,". Ames continues "the direct results of these bills when they pass are to take away things that we know are correlated with increased mental health and decreased suicide risk: sports team participation, seeing yourself represented in a classroom, being accepted by your parents and your healthcare professionals. These are all associated with significantly lower odds of attempting suicide."

It feels like Queer liberation is more important than ever, especially with such blatantly coordinated attacks against people who identify as such.

Pride is Personal

Inclusivity and visibility are part of Kush Queen’s DNA. From the all-gender restroom to the Queer individuals who appear in our content and work behind the scenes, Kush Queen's identity as a brand is unapologetically gay.

As I get choked up thinking about my own experiences and identity, I can’t help but think about what a personal intimate experience celebrating Pride is for me. As a human, I self-identify not only as the CEO of this company but as a Queer woman surrounded by countless other Queer people in my life. People who are my family, friends, and frankly, my inspirations. I think of my parents raising a Queer son in South Louisiana and not once did anything but accept him for who he was.

Since its inception, Kush Queen has celebrated Pride (year-round) and has raised well over $40,000 for Queer organizations, something I'm incredibly proud of.

Hi, it's Olivia Alexander here, founder of Kush Queen. I pretty much live and breathe our brand. But when I'm not at HQ working, I'm usually on the interwebs, and lately, I have been doing a ton of podcasting.

I really enjoy podcasting because it allows for long-form content, and let's be real, I love to talk. Naturally, conversations around cannabis, being a female CEO in the space, and my other personal interests, like psychedelics, all came up. I wanted to share some of my latest interviews with you for your listening pleasure, and hey, maybe you'll fall in love with one of these podcasts and binge some episodes (like I have done many times).

Kendalls World | Mindset | Spirituality | Travel

I sat down with Kendall Furman, content creator and social media influencer dedicated to exploring travel, wellness, and more on Kendall's World.

In my episode of Kendall's World, we chat about all the healing benefits this plant offers. Furman isn't as experienced with cannabis, and she can't seem to find the right type of high, so I obviously dive into the complexity and uniqueness of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). I also teach her about endogenous cannabinoids and the myths surrounding cannabis.

Furman is an engaging host and even has video episodes on her Spotify. Her favorite new Kush Queen product is our CBG-infused Diamond Hands Gummies (which she's been raving about on her IG stories). Thanks, boo!

From Pot To Popular

Rosie Mattio is an acclaimed and accomplished woman in cannabis. Mattio is the founder of Mattio Communications, a powerhouse cannabis PR agency based in New York City. In addition to lifestyle and cannabis, the firm is also interested in working with brands from another emerging market, psychedelics.

On this industry-focused podcast, From Pot to Popular, we discuss what it's like to be a woman in cannabis, why representation in this industry matters, and why small businesses really, really matter (especially in cannabis).

While you're at it, check out this amazing byline by Mattio, on "Why 2022 will be a defining year for women in cannabis".

That Budtender Podcast

Finally, I stopped by That Budtender Podcast for some serious girl talk and Seth Rogan slander. Hosted by cannabis journalist and Kush Queen ally, Bianca Blanche, listening to just one episode will have you craving a full sesh with the ex-budtender.

As a former budtender myself, fun fact: we actually got our start at the same dispensary but different years, Blanche and I give a well-deserved nod to the OG days of cannabis. Trust us, a lot has changed since then.

On my episode of That Budtender Podcast, we're getting a little stoney and speaking from the heart. We go over why I hate celebrity-driven cannabis brands, my experience consuming entheogen plants for my mental health, and dealing with the anti-cannabis tyrants at Instagram and TikTok.

There’s truly such an endless world available of podcasts and conversations. From Thirdwave to The True Beauty Brooklyn Podcast, I have over 16 hours of content on this playlist. I also have a bunch of exciting interviews coming up, so make sure to check them out. Not so much for me, but for the incredible women behind these amazing podcasts, especially if you're interested in learning more about women entrepreneurship, wellness, cannabis, and other psychedelics.

Follow us at Kush Queen for more interviews and brand updates!!

We can’t get enough of the Kush Queen #SoakandToke and believe it or not, there is a method to the canna-madness.

In case you missed it in our previous post, a Kush Queen 'Soak and Toke' combines dual delivery methods of consumption to help achieve an ideal effect. We're all about using cannabis to find our feelings this season.

Model smokes Kush Queen hemp flower

Many people chop cannabis up to just getting high, but when you really know the plant, you can actually create different types of experiences. Gone are the days when you simply feel stoned.

Luckily, Kush Queen's new hemp CBD and Delta 8 flower pair perfectly with our customer's favorite award-winning cannabis and CBD-infused bath bombs and topicals.

Lemon Octane CBD and Soaked Shower Gel

Kush Queen's Prepackaged Eighth of Lemon Octane CBD Flower

Pair the Lemon Octane CBD with our citrus shower gel Soaked; it's a spring-inspired combo that will uplift your body and mind. This strain's terpenes and fruity profile will give you a burst of energy. Our Lemon Octane CBD is a strain made from Lemon Snow CBG and Bubba Kush 66 and is high in CBG, the mother of all cannabinoids

Kush Queen's Soaked CBD Shower Gel

Think of this as the quintessential Sativa pairing, perfect for mornings or a mid-afternoon pick me up. Enjoy it in a pre-roll or pack it in a bowl with our pre-packed eighths. You’ll feel an elevated mood because of all the citrus terpenes and deep body chill. Use our Soaked shower gel as a bubble bath or shower gel. 'Shower joint' is now the new shower beer

Sour Space Candy and 1:1 Relax Bath Bomb

Kush Queen Sour Space Candy CBD + ∆8 Pre-Roll

This particular pairing is for those in search of the ultimate high. Sour Space Candy (SSC for short) is a Delta 8 strain, meaning it will definitely get you elevated. The origin of SSC is rooted in the genetics of Sour Tsunami, one of the first cultivars bred for high CBD.

Kush Queen Relax 1:1 CBD & Delta 8 THC Bath Bomb

This hybrid strain has a delicious terpene profile that we've paired with our Relax 1:1 bath bomb infused with Delta 8 and CBD. If you really want to melt away, finish with a foot massage using our Kush Queen CBD-infused pain relief lotion Melt

Hawaiian Haze and CBD Awaken Bath Bomb

Model holds a Kush Queen Hawaiian Haze CBD + ∆8 Pre-Roll

Now, if you're looking for a pick-me-up or need to get rid of a nasty hangover, this pairing will lift your spirits way, way up.

Our Hawaiian Haze Delta 8 and our CBD Awaken bath bomb is a delightful pairing of sweet terpenes and energizing essential oils that will leave you with the cerebral buzz you need to take on your day.

Kush Queen Awaken CBD Bath Bomb

Feel like you're being transported to a remote island while your Awaken bath bomb softly fizzes in the background.

While the genetics of Hawaiian Haze remains a mystery, cannabis folklore says it was created using mineral-rich volcanic soil in Aloha State, Hawaii. We suggest putting on some Riri or The Beach Boys while you soak, and you can thank us later.

Kush Queen's Complete Mini Collection of Bath bombs

When it comes to cannabis, it's all about finding what works best for you. And that can mean using multiple delivery methods for the best possible outcome. Basically, the more the merrier when it's time for cannabis and self-care.

Quickly following the creation of our award-winning CBD bath bombs, the Kush Queen Soak & Toke was born thanks to some innovative team members at headquarters.

At Kush Queen, we don’t just spend our time perfecting our handmade cannabinoid products; we also perfect their use in our own daily lives. This dynamic relationship with our CBD and THC products allows our team to create wellness offerings that can extend a deeper connection between our consumers and this plant. You might call this R & D; we call it our favorite part of the job! You might also be asking yourself, what is "soaking and toking"? And is it even for you?

Kush Queen Olivia Alexander enjoys a cannabis Soak and Toke

Take it from the experts, a relaxing combo of Kush Queen's ultra-premium, indoor-grown hemp flower, and infused bath bombs is an opulent example of self-care at its finest. But before we dive into the experience of a Soak & Toke, do you know where the term "toke" comes from?

A Touch of 'Toke' History

Enter Alice B. Toklas. An American writer of the early 20th century, Toklas openly shared a recipe for hashish brownies in her memoir-style recipe book. That notorious recipe solidified Toklas in cannabis history and gave us the shorthand for toke

To Soak & Toke? Or Not to Soak & Toke? It's Really Not Even a Question...

There's a myriad of reasons to smoke cannabis in a cannabis bath, aside from being luxurious af. Ultimately, your skin is your biggest organ, and you want to tend to it accordingly. The cannabis bath bomb is a full-body topical experience that has you fully covered (literally)

Kush Queen cannabinoid-infused bath bombs allow you to feel the entourage effect, a medley of healing properties from cannabinoids and terpenes working together. Plus, soaking in hot water allows your pores to open up and absorb the cannabis compounds and essential oils profoundly, creating a lush full-body experience.

But here's the thing, the cannabinoids in our bath bombs don't cross the blood-brain barrier because due to the molecule size - they are too big. Unlike our topical cannabinoid products labeled transdermal, which will cross the blood-brain barrier and have the possibility of delivering more mind than body effects.

How to Bathe like Weed Royalty

Maybe you're looking to take your bath effects even higher. That's where another delivery system comes in. Sure, you could pop a gummy, but most edibles take longer to hit than your bath will take. By smoking a pre-roll while you soak, you get an instant delivery of cannabinoids, which is why smoking is often the most beloved and popular way of cannabis consumption.

Kush Queen cannabis products for Soak & Toke

A soak and toke is an incredibly simple yet impactful ritual with cannabis. Let’s look into this deep mind and body practice that could elevate your next moment of self-care.

The first step to a proper Kush Queen 'Soak & Toke' is choosing one of our handmade bath bombs to use. Our bath bombs include: Relax, Relive, Sleep, Love, Awaken, Black Magic, and Immunity

Draw your bath and add any additions you like, such as a bubble bath (make sure the scent pairs with the bath bomb), crystals, music, candlelight, or even a beverage.

Kush Queen Sleep CBD bath bomb fizzing

Start smoking once submerged in the tub. Our newly released Kush Queen hemp flower is the perfect pairing with your Kush Queen infused-bath bomb. Kush Queen's cultivar options include Lemon Octane, Pink Panther, Hawaiian Haze, and Sour Space Candy, for a range of complex tasting notes and effects.

Soak for 40 minutes and light up between 10 to 15 minutes in your bath.

Extra Tips from the Experts at Kush Queen

Kush Queen CEO Olivia Alexander enjoys the new line of ultra premium hemp flower in a Kush Queen bath

The key to a successful soak and toke is preparation.

  1. Make sure you remove the bath bomb seal with scissors while your water runs.
  2. Always check the temperature while you're waiting for your bath to fill. No one likes a tub that's too hot or too cold.
  3. Prepare your cannabis beforehand. There's nothing worse than a soggy nug or wasted pre-roll.
  4. Keep a small hand towel nearby, a lighter, and an ashtray (no one wants to soak in ash).
  5. If you're toking on a Kush Queen pre-roll, make sure to keep it in the glass container until you're ready.
  6. Combine other modalities like crystals, music, or starlight to finish off the perfect vibration.

Combining both a topical and oral delivery method is a way to take your bath deeper and your mind higher. We encourage you to experiment with the different infused-bath bomb and flower options available to create your own favorite pairings.

At Kush Queen, our hope for the cannabis industry is for those within it to be as diverse as the people who use this plant.

We started this company with infused bath bombs because we recognized how approachable this product is and how much a stigma breaker it could be. Destigmatizing cannabis, and the people who use it, has always been our mission as a brand.

In honor of Black History Month, we at Kush Queen are celebrating the incredible individuals working towards and advocating for real change in cannabis - more specifically, for a socially equitable space. With skyrocketing taxes and very little support, the disenfranchised communities (whose backs this industry was built on) are sadly getting left behind. The truth is the cannabis industry as a whole has a long, long way to go before becoming the equal playing field it needs to be. Thankfully, these inspiring and selfless Black entrepreneurs are working incessantly towards making social equity in cannabis a reality.

This is a call for doing the highest good with what you have.

This is a call for self-care and community care.

This is a call for action.

This is a call for trust.

Pride season 2020 is as close as we are going to get to reliving Stonewall. Our communities are calling out for solidarity and the leaders of every activist movement since then believe that we have everything we need to continue their transformative work.

We cannot let our communities fight alone. Kush Queen believes that communities hold the power for dismantling inequalities. We’ve experienced this progress first hand.

Join us in the shared movement of creating equality.

Why Does Kush Queen Celebrate Pride?

The Kush Queen brand essence We Are Our Community is our guide post, our ultimate truth if we are being vulnerable. Kush Queen started with listening to our community and recognizing the lack of representation in cannabis. Our brand promise ethos starts with we will always treat all individuals with care and respect and promise to use our passion for cannabis to help shape normalization and usage for everyone.

As Pride season kicks off, it's time to celebrate the shared history of cannabis and the LGBTQIA+ community and remember how the path to legalization started. It's time to do the work our brand promise beautifully lays out.

In most states, Cannabis is being considered an essential during widespread pandemic closures. We know the beginning of the progress we experience today was started by marginalized LGBTQIA+ communities.

1980s LGBTQIA+ activist and change leaders’ fight for liberation and the HIV/AIDS movement led to what we know as modern cannabis legalization. We would not have this progress without the work of these overlooked communities’ organizing and grass-roots efforts. These communities understood the power of coming together for the collective good to increase equality for suffering individuals.

By celebrating Pride, it’s our hope to honor the activists’ spirit and keep their passion for cannabis access alive, shape normalization and reverse inequalities.

How Does Kush Queen Celebrate Pride?

Self-Care and Community Care

We can all get wrapped up in fighting for rights, gaining representation, or simply become exhausted from having to explain ourselves that we often forget to practice self-care and community care.

Not because we don’t want it or know that we need to take care of ourselves, but because it's sometimes a radical act.

Saying no to the extra email or endless social scrolling so you can take a before bed soak and sit with your feelings or pushing yourself through the “I don’t want to” self talk to get that workout in because you know giving your mind a rest is necessary is not always easy.

To us “self-care is self-preservation,” and when we are called to be in “brave spaces rather than safe spaces,” taking care is a must.

Audre’s Lorde’s thoughts on self-care remind us that these acts are not indulgent but radical when applying them to daily life. And also reminds us to rely on our communities for support. We cannot do this work alone.

In turn, community care becomes a functioning part of filling our cups and helping fulfill others as well. We thrive when self-care and community care become fully functional.

How does Kush Queen support our Pride community partner?

This year, we decided to take a different approach on how we support our community partners.

As a cannabis company, we’ve been turned away and asked not to make public statements about supporting organizations. This “hi, we’ll take your money but don’t promote it” attitude influenced us to stop our support at donations. Even though over the past three years we have donated $30,000.00 between TransLife Line, Born This Way Foundation, Be You TiFul Foundation, and Operation Beagle Freedom; simply donating money is not enough.

Kush Queen is committing $25K in cash and in kind donations during the course of the rest of 2020 to our partner. In addition to monetary donations, we will be using our platform to promote Asylum Connect on our social media, email marketing and websites.

With a community of over 264,000 people, amplifying Asylum Connect’s mission, goals and active campaigns will be a focus point of Kush Queen's Pride messaging throughout this year.

An Invitation To Conscious Capitalism

We believe in the power of elevating humanity through business. When you purchase Pride products from Kush Queen you are empowering positive change for LGBTQIA+ community through Asylum Connect.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, I contemplated if we should even celebrate 4/20 at all. It’s a strange time and the rate at which the world is changing we never know what tomorrow will bring. What would have been a month-long celebration has turned into telling the Kush Queen story; one of fear, courage, commitment, and the plant we can't imagine living without.

This post will continue to be updated, if this is your first time here, start at the top :) see you at the bottom.

The Power of Being Seen

The greatest lesson I’ve learned along the journey of Kush Queen is the priceless value of being seen. This plant has allowed me to be seen and to pass it on and see others. When you experience the act of seeing others, you cannot lose. Since cannabis is an emerging industry people are worried about compliance, funding, and marketing their product. All of those things are important, but importantly are the people who use the product.

Other than the 18-35 year old white male stoner, most people’s cannabis experience has been invisible, not unlike their narrative. At Kush Queen, we see all types of people with differing beliefs and life paths seeing themselves and that’s what we’re here for.

Part 1

Cannabis Is Vital

A few weeks ago, California deemed cannabis as essential and I could not imagine getting through this pandemic without cannabis, it's more than essential to me it's vital.

I have been self-isolating for weeks now, our team has been working via Zoom with our WFH team. A few of our brave employees continue to help ship orders and keep our products on the shelves of California dispensaries. Our small team has maintained and made me extremely proud on all fronts. They have continued to care for each other, the products, and our customers despite living in a crisis. They have shown something that I believe we all need to have right now, something that I believe my purpose led me to discover in myself through Kush Queen: courage.

Kush Queen Cannabis Was Born

It’s not every day that people start companies with $0 and pipe dreams, yet that's how it all started. From our family kitchen and garage, we developed our first CBD products. At the time, our business was called The Crystal Cult where we made Swarovski crystal vape pens. Even though we experienced early success, something was missing. We wanted to create a more accessible wellness-focused products and share our family’s passion for cannabis.

Our namesake, Kush Queen was born from a community favorite vape - The Kush Queen and our unwavering commitment to our community has never changed. You guide us.

The first sold batch of Kush Queen CBD Bath Bombs.

The Flagship - Cannabis Bath Bombs

At this time, I had been working in the cannabis industry for a while and didn’t see many topical cannabis products that spoke to me. Weird textures, dense oils, the wellness element was missing and I kept thinking, where is the intersection of Lush-like quality and cannabis.

That thought track led to what you experience today with Kush Queen Bath Bombs. Since day one, my mom and I worked and reworked the blends and processes until they were high-quality and potent. And like any good mother-daughter team, my mom would not allow me to take credit for the formulations of our flagship product, cannabis-infused bath bombs. I can admit it, she did all the heavy lifting.

The two most important elements we wanted to use in our formulas were high-quality ingredients and the entourage effect. Those two qualities will always be found in Kush Queen Bath Bombs.

One Part Fear, Three Parts Courage

It’s one thing to make something that you love and a completely different experience to sell it. I will never forget the first few sales because they were truly unnerving and exhilarating.

From the products to the marketing I was constantly making a creative statement and putting my view of what I thought cannabis could be for people out there. Naysayers? I’ve heard it all from I’m ruining my life to I’m going to hell BUT I believed deep down in my soul and heart that what I had to say mattered. That a cannabis brand from my perspective would be a vital part of the movement towards legalization, the social acceptance of cannabis globally, and hopefully eventually the end of the war on drugs.

Over the years, we’ve faced every type of shut down from selling CBD online to violating Instagram’s TOS policies and legal weed. Another hill would be climbed, all would be well and then POOF, at any given moment we would be shut down.

With every bit of growth, my gratitude was frequently met with fear, because you never really knew if it all would come crashing down.

We have weathered many storms personally and professionally from bank account shutdowns to my mom’s unexpected brain surgery. Through it, all Kush Queen has kept me going and I’ve always continued to get up despite feeling like quitting many times.

Brene Brown sums it up well in Daring Greatly, “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” It wasn’t until recently that I realized what the journey of Kush Queen has taught me. Now I know it's courage.

Join us in our ode to the journey and honoring what keeps us going during this epic month of 4/2020. Follow Kush Queen Shop and Kush Queen Co for weekly giveaways, LOLs and deets.

Part 2

Evolution and Innovation

As the popularity of our cannabis infused bath bombs grew, so did our team and capabilities. During this time, Michael Sawyer, my fiancé and business partner, was working behind the scenes to create a scalable process for making cannabis oil water soluble and transdermal.

This technology would eventually fuel the development of our nano topical products

Let’s take it back to 2017. Michael is passionate about infusing beverages of all kinds and understood the limitations to cannabis oil. After all, we are talking about actual oil. Even just 2 years ago, drinks on the market in California were dosed with THC and CBD oil which resulted in the cannabinoids floating on top of the liquid, pretty gross.

Delivery Methods Are Key

More than the strange oil element, edibles were not a choice for a lot of people. You see, when you eat cannabis oil your body processes it through the stomach and liver. For the average person this process takes at least an hour, which often results in people being unable to get their dose right or consistent. Moreover, your liver converts the THC to 11-hydroxy-THC, which scientifically is a completely different, more potent molecule.

At this point Michael has been in the lab non-stop. When he finally achieved his nano particle water soluble cannabis technology we knew Kush Queen would have more effective topicals and more freedom in formulas.

I had long wondered why every cannabis infused topical was either a salve or oil. It was because the science tech didn’t exist and cannabis oil needed a carrier. With Michael’s nano technology, for Kush Queen that was no longer an issue.

The First Test - Getting High In The Shower

One night I was struggling to sleep and having lung problems at the same time so I couldn’t smoke. Michael was up to the challenge of trying to help me and dosed some nano THC into our body wash. I jumped in the shower and lathered up with excitement as I am always ecstatic to be his guinea pig.

As I lifted my head up from drying off my lower body, I felt it hit. I was high...from a shower gel. You cannot imagine my excitement as I walked in the bedroom baked like a fresh cookie. Red eyes and giggly, Michael was ecstatic - it really worked. 15 minutes later, I was asleep.

Development began on Kush Queen Topicals

The next day we started working on what would be our cannabis infused nano topicals: Soaked Shower Gel, Melt Relief Lotion, and Kush Queen Lubricant.

I had been using cannabis topicals for about 10+ years at this point and knew all the things I disliked: coconut oil in everything, people selling infused oil as a lube, salve blends that didn’t work on my pain. And most importantly the fact that so many of these products were not actually delivering the cannabis directly into my bloodstream.

We knew the ingredients had to be clean and we wanted to use doses that could really transform your daily bathroom experience.

Soaked CBD Shower Gel was the first to be born. A lightweight, clean body wash with a transdermal dose of CBD. Scented with citrus, parbean, phthalate, and free of any harmful ingredients.

Melt CBD Pain Lotion was the second of the Kush Queen nano topicals family, an instant hit because of its organic icy hot feel. Melt doesn’t just take the pain away, it helps it stay away.

Kush Queen Lubricant was a response to the most popular cannabis lubricant on the market being coconut oil based and not an actual lubricant. That lube took 1 hour plus to work and was not latex safe (ew). Creating an inclusive lube for the v, the b, and the p, that was latex free, toy-safe and made with the most sensitive skin in mind was our goal. Fast forward 2 years and KQ Lube is now our number 2 best selling product.

Sometimes You’re A Little Early

At this point, our excitement around launching Kush Queen topicals is high. We go to market and realize the topicals category is a joke to the cannabis industry. Looking back on the experience, 2 things came into play here. It was 2017, the wellness element and importance of delivery methods in cannabis was nowhere near what it is today and second, most people that had tried topicals had the same unsatisfying experiences we had.

That’s when the Kush Queen promise was created. Given we had an uphill battle to convince people that our topicals really worked and were better for your body, we wanted to be transparent and educate our community on why and how our topicals were effective. On all product packaging and product pages, we inform the community about our nano tech and how Kush Queen ensures all of our products have the best delivery method possible for quick absorption.

When it comes down to it, we understand and take the responsibility of being innovative in the cannabis industry.

You can rely on the Kush Queen promise - All products are handmade in the USA, we never test on animals, we always disclose the full ingredients list and type of cannabis, we will continue to seek innovation in all aspects of our company, and most important to us, we are committed to using our platform and voice for the highest good.

Part 3

Over the last 4 weeks, Kush Queen has grown in ways we could have never imagined when starting this company. Within weeks of reaching our fourth birthday, we are exactly where we want to be, sharing our vision of daily wellness with our community.

Given the times, living with this new shared perspective for a little over a month really got us reflecting, tuning in and connecting with Kush Queens everywhere. Part 3 of our story shares the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

You, Our Community Shares Our Vision

Kush Queen started with a vision to create a space for all types of people in cannabis, in particular, those who didn’t feel like they had a place. Over the last 4 years, we’ve grown into a community of over 22,000 with a shared view of using cannabis in everyday wellness.

The Kush Queen Promise

Mid-last year, we committed to bringing the Kush Queen promise to life in every aspect of our company. With each promise, we want you to know that we are real people on the other side of the products that we love so so much.

  1. Handmade in the USA. All of our products are handmade in our Southern California facility. Our small team has production down to a science. Through the recent pandemic events, we’ve never been more proud of seeing the Kush Queen team work together, take care of one another and go the extra mile for customers.
  2. Never test on animals. We think doggos should be running things anyway. Animals reign supreme at KQ HQ.
  3. Transparency. We hope you can feel this when you choose our products. You knowing exactly what’s in each Kush Queen product is very important to us. We’ve also started sharing more behind the scenes of Kush Queen. We are a small womxn-owned, family-run company. Your support truly means the world to us.
  4. Innovation. To us, that means relentless innovation with cannabis molecules. If you read Parts 1 and 2, you know that each of our product lines delivers some type of innovation from the delivery method to nano CBD. Constant improvement is our love language.
  5. Social Responsibility. If innovation is our love language, social responsibility is our soapbox. We will never spot fighting for and supporting those facing inequalities. Kush Queen is committed to using our platform and our voice for the highest good. You will always be seen, represented and given space.

What’s Next?

Innovation is leading us to the next chapter of Kush Queen, just like it always does. We are beyond excited to launch Kindgm THC Primer next week in California. Following the primer launch will be expanding Kingdm with an infused foundation.

Last month, we delivered our first minor cannabinoid focused products with the expansion of Gummies Rx Bliss and Sleep. Look forward to more minor cannabinoid products. Our team was in the lab, as recently as last night testing new blends for effectiveness, potency and exploring benefits.

While a lot has changed since we first started, it's you and this amazing community of wellness-minded people that keep us going.

We hope everyone stays safe and healthy throughout these challenging times.

We love you! - Team KQ

Kush Queen, CBD, and Small Business Saturday.

The past 4 years of Kush Queen have been an incredible journey of love, growth, perseverance, and of course, CBD. Waking up every day to share our passion in a rapidly growing market, we have experienced our highest highs and some courage-required lows. But I can attest to every second being worth it.

Take a read through our reflections and a photo scroll through memory lane!

What a Year for CBD Momentum and Market Conditions

Kush Queen's first warehouse facility.

2019 will always be a historic year for CBD. With the Farm Bill passing in the Senate and the House in early December 2018, the new year promised to be an exciting growth year for CBD.

At the time, Kush Queen was experiencing incredible growth. Our team was evolving, constantly improving and making production adjustments to ensure we are creating the same high-quality CBD experience with every single handmade product.

Mid-summer, payment processing in the CBD industry came crashing down. Many in the industry went months with no ability to accept payments online and had to face tough decisions to keep their business afloat.

Through the grit and determination of our team and the patience and loyalty of our customers, Kush Queen made it through that chapter. As a small business innovating in a rapidly expanding industry we cannot say thank you enough to our customers, fans, friends, and family for the support. For example, on the eve of our first big mainstream event, one of our lows transformed right into one of the highest highs – BeautyCon LA

Kush Queen Is Visibility, Wellness, and Innovation

Olivia Alexander starting Kush Queen CBD in her family garage.

In the same spirit of getting our dream up and running like Amazon, Google, and Disney, we started Kush Queen in our family garage. The Kush Queen brand was born out of our sister company, The Crystal Cult. The Kush Queen was a vape that turned into the beginning of a community. So many kush queens were out there but the cannabis industry’s male slated products left room for a newcomer with a different vision.

Kush Queen grew out of a community of like-minded individuals wanting to create a different type of space – a creative outlet for cannabis-derived health and wellness.

Our vision is to create a space for anyone to gain access to high-quality health and wellness products made from the healing cannabis plant.

It’s All-Hands-On-Deck

Kush Queen CEO Olivia Alexander mixing CBD topicals.

It takes a village, including you! We are a small, family-operated business. We’ve got a tight-knit crew of people that all believe in a dream of making things better. From CBD to our workplace vibe, the Kush Queen team is dedicated to one another and making the best CBD products on the market. We’re savages but like the kind you want to invite over to sesh with and meet your mom! With every challenge we face, we turn inward, use our products, innovate and move forward!

Thank You For Supporting Our Small Business

Our passion for this plant and its power to transform lives keeps us motivated! Thank you for believing in our dream. It is with gratitude we operate every day from the heart and it is our privilege to have you as part of our family.

The irony of small business Saturday is that it was started by a corporation. A corporation that will not do business with CBD companies. The irony is really so 2019.

And with that, we pour some CBD on it! Stock up on CBD with the holiday sale going on now.
