Spring is around the corner and it’s the perfect time to reset our domains to align with what we wish to create for ourselves. This process isn’t always fun, but it’s an act of self-love and self-care that makes a big impact on how we live our lives day-to-day. To make the process of sorting and discarding more enjoyable, light up a joint, roll up your sleeves, and experiment with these spring cleaning tips and our bath ritual for letting go!
Spark Joy…and Joints
If you’re wondering why everyone’s asking, “Does this spark joy?” then you haven’t had the life-changing experience of reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, a Japanese tidying expert. Kondo’s KonMari Method is a 6 step process that makes it easy to identify and discard things you no longer need with less remorse so you can create literal space in your life for the things that make you happy. In essence, by getting your home life in order, you face yourself and your past, which allows you to get your shit together on a grander scale.
I would highly recommend this book to just about anyone, as it makes deciding what to keep and what to discard so much simpler. I recently did a mass cleanout of my office and, equipped with the KonMari Method and a few prerolls, I could clearly see how what I was holding on to was reflective of my state of mind at the time that I decided to keep a given item. Parting with my unnecessary belongings felt liberating and empowering, and I didn’t want to stop!
Set your Intention and Mind
It’s finally time to make room for a new workspace or altar in your home. Or perhaps you’ve been letting papers pile up and junk drawers accumulate. Maybe you have a bit of a compulsion to shop when you’re feeling stressed or sad, which is inundating your closet, credit card statements, and life with a bunch of stuff you don’t need or even want anymore.
You will face your belongings and yourself in many ways as you go deeper into your spring cleaning. Remain present for all the feelings that come up and practice listening to your inner voice. This will help you build a strong intuition and a trusting relationship with your higher self that will carry forward into all aspects of your life.
Even with all the positive changes that letting go brings, it can still be an emotionally challenging and physically exhausting process. Set an intention that you can refer back to when the task becomes too daunting to help ground you when you’re ready to bail. Remember that this enormous undertaking is an act of self-love. Trust that you will keep exactly what you need and let go of exactly what you need to release.
Let Go to Grow
Letting go of the things that mindlessly pile up over time frees up the physical space and mental energy that would be better spent creating a more vibrant life. The arrival of spring is symbolic for this process. During the colder seasons, dying leaves and blossoms fall from their branches and make room for new life in spring. We, humans, are part of nature and if we follow the ebb and flow of nature’s cycle in our own lives, it serves as a reminder that everything happens in divine timing. If we don’t engage in releasing our proverbial leaves, then we remain stuck in the past, our dying blossoms anchoring us there.
Self-care During and After
Lifting boxes, sorting through papers and drawers, trying on clothes, and taking out tons of trash is hard work and it’s tough on the body. It’s easy to lose track of time and wind up with an achy back and growling stomach. Make sure you take breaks to stretch, drink water, and snack between long bouts of cleaning.
Have plenty of joints rolled and keep a bottle of Melt handy to rub on any tender spots that flare up. The CBD mixed with a warming and cooling blend of essential oils, like menthol, peppermint, camphor, and capsicum, among many others, will rapidly relieve pain and tension.
To commence your spring cleaning in a relaxing, soothing ceremony, try this bath time ritual for letting go:
Draw a bath and drop in a Kush Queen bath bomb or try our DIY infused bath recipe and release any tension that’s built throughout the day. Shift your focus toward what you’ve discarded and moved into gratitude for what this process has taught you while you soak. Set the intention to let go and while the tub drains, stay seated and visualize cutting ties with that which you are releasing and watch it flow down the drain and into the Earth’s center. You’ve freed up space in your home and in your being for new energy to manifest and you did it from a place of love!
I hope this blog helps you spring into action so you can spark more joy—and more joints—in your life!
